Frank Gehry
Frank Gehry, an architect from Canada, was born in 1929. Many of the buildings that he had designed over the years have become tourist destinations. The list includes even his own home! The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles is one of his most famous design works.
Gehry used to show architectural talents during his childhood and his grandmother was a real inspiration for him. She used to appreciate his little works that he used to show her working with scraps of wood. He used to draw along with his father and mother. Even though his father thought he was just a dreamer, his mother was pretty confident that he had that edge in drawing and designing. She used to push him to do things in order to make him practice getting used to such things.
In 1947, Gehry moved to California to do his architectural studies in the Los Angeles City College. He had a part time job driving a truck in his free time, which brought him some extra money. After completing his early studies there, he joined the University of Southern California to get a degree in architecture. He completed his graduation in the year 1954. After that he was engaged in work that had no relation to his interests. He even served the US army for some time.
In 1952, Gehry married Anita Snyder. She is the person who told him to change his name from Frank Goldberg to Frank Gehry. But the relation didn’t last too long and he divorced her in 1966. His current wife is Berta Isabel Aguilera whom he married in 1975. Weatherhead School of Management in Ohio, Art Gallery of Ontario renovation, and Peter B. Lewis Library are some of his latest projects that he has completed.
