Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (Mar 27 Aug 17 1969) is an architect from Germany. Mies is his surname and it is how his colleagues and friends call him. His intention was to establish a new architectural style for the coming generation and he was very successful in that. His designs were simple and were functional to a great extent. Some of his buildings utilized this generation’s building materials like steel and other such things. This itself shows how talented he was. His contributions to the architecture of today are of great importance to the whole of mankind. His architecture was called “skin and bones” architecture as named by himself.

His career started as an apprentice at Peter Behrens’ studio. He worked there from 1908 to 1912. Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier were his fellow workers there. His talent and skills were soon known to people around him.

Mies started working independently. The homes that he was building were of German architecture, but all these were without even having formal education. He wasn’t that fortunate to get a college education. It was only because of his inborn talents and skills that he started a career in architecture. Since he became very popular with his skills he renamed himself to a much more realistic name that matched his profession and it was van der Rohe. He became a quality architect from a tradesman’s son – and this is truly a great achievement.

He wanted to make people aware of the fact that the architecture of an age should reflect the culture and traditions of that age in which it exists. This way, even after long years of their establishment, people will still be able to make out how life was then, and the culture of those people who were living in those times.

Even though he was a man who studied everything himself through real life experience working for years – he is still one among the best architects the world has ever seen and might ever see.
