Piet Hein
Piet Hein was born on Dec 16 1905. He is from Denmark. He was not only a scientist but also a good mathematician, poet, inventor and author. He studied theoretical physics in the University of Copenhagen. After that he joined the Technical University of Denmark for further studies. He was honored in 1972 by Yale University and was awarded an honorary doctorate.
He was a good poet and he proved it with great poems at the time when Denmark was in the hands of Germany. He didnt have any other weapon in his hands other than his pen. So, what he did was he took his pen and wrote some excellent poems – most of which were motivational. At that time, he didnt have many options, just three. The first option was to simply keep quiet – which he didn’t like. The second option was to migrate to “neutral” Sweden. He rejected the first two options and settled for the third option which was to join the resistance. He didn’t go with the first option since he thought staying in his homes would worry him all the time because of the war going on outside.
Earlier square buildings were built everywhere – and architects were thinking of something new. They were thinking of designing circular ones – but those weren’t practical. Thus the Scandinavian went to Piet Hein for help – and he suggested that it would be better to go with a superellipse model. And this was the birth of superellipse buildings. This is also the reason why these types of buildings are called the trademark of Scandinavian architecture. Full credit goes to Piet Hein without whom the world couldn’t have gotten such a great architectural design.
Piet Hein died in Apr 17th 1996 but his memories will always be there in the minds of people who learnt about his works and contributions to the world.
