Verner Panton

Verner Panton was one of the most famous interior and furniture designers of Denmark. He was born on 13th Feb 1926. He was good at designing things using plastics. Even though he was designing with good quality materials, people couldn’t realize the value of those items until the end of 20th century.

Verner Panton completed his early architectural studies at Odense. Then he went on to graduate at Copenhagen. There, he joined the Royal Danish Academy of Art. He graduated from there in the year 1951.

He was getting exposure in this field while he was working for Arne Jacobsen during the years 1950-1952. Arne Jacobsen was a Danish architect and furniture designer. This way, he was able to get architectural practice even before he completed his studies.

Panton then had plans to start his own office and soon started a design and architectural. Collapsible house, Cardboard House, and Plastic House are some of the projects which made him popular during the early years. These were innovative architectural works of those times.

In 1960, Panton designed the very first injection-moulded plastic chair. This is one of his most famous works and he is still remembered for the same. This is also one of his most produced designs. The chair is called as Stacking chair or Pantom S chair.

Pantom was a man who liked to experiment with things a lot using his architectural and design skills. This prompted him to design even psychedelic and radical interiors. He loved designing anything that is related to the environment in which he lived in. He was good at designing wall upholstering, curved furniture, and even textiles.

Pantom even designed the interiors of a German boat – which is now a museum. This reminds people of Pantom and his architectural skills. So far it has been successful in reminding people of his great skills and works.
