The “Lounge Chair” (”and Ottoman”) was designed by Eames in 1955 and it’s a perfect materialization of the word “opulence”, being a modern interpretation of a club chair. It was the most expensive lounge chair in the 1950’s even though the designer intended to make it cheap and suitable for mass-production. It’s components were so diverse and so many that the production costs were higher then he ever imagined. Each chair is hand made and perfectly combines wood, leather, feathers, foam and pressure-cast aluminium for a wonderful “wrap around the body” sensation, like a refuge from the modern world. The leg has 5 prongs and allows the chair to swivel 360 degrees, is made of black painted aluminium. The chair is composed of 3 elements which are made of laminated wood shells covered in rosewood veneer. The cushions are filled with 6-inch thick dacron-wrapped urethane foam (originally padded with a combination of duck feathers and foam) and the cushions are covered in leather. The fixed-height seat is permanently tilted to distribute your weight properly to the back of the chair for maximum comfort.

Designed: 1966

The Ball Chair (also known as Globe Chair) was designed by Eero Aarnio in 1966 and hand made by him. In 1966 the Ball Chair was presented at the international furniture fair in Cologne and it was the sensation of the fair. It’s a very unconventional shaped chair – it looks like a hollowed out ball, fixed on a leg. Sitting in its interior makes you feel like in a “room within a room”, having your own privacy, in a calm atmosphere, isolated from noise. However, the chair can turn around its own axis, which gives a choice to the user: turn around and exclude yourself from the world around you, or face the room and the people in it. The Vitra Design Museum notes: “It is something between a piece of furniture and a piece of architecture and at the same time embodies both the mobile and the established, the fixed.” It’s completely cushioned in fabric.

Designer: Eriksson, Stenerik & Berg, Gsta

Designed: 1945-1970

This Easychair with Footstool was designed by Eriksson, Stenerik & Berg, Gsta and produced by Fritz Hansen. It is made of steel and covered in black leather in a mid-century modern design style, originally from Denmark. It’s the ultimate design for a good rest – with an ergonomic comforting shape, ideal for tired legs, arms, with a soft pillow for the head. The easychair has 86×96x96cm (HxWxD) and the footstool has 47 x 56, h: 40 cm.

Designer: Verner Panton

Designed: 1974

This chair was designed by Verner Panton in 1974 and produced by Matzform. It’s a Relaxer lounge rocking chair made of oak or mahogany wood and covered in brown leather (comes in black, too and it can be found covered in colorful fabrics also). It has 84 cm height, 63 cm width and 94 cm diameter.
